Fall Prevention Awareness Day

The elderly aren't the only people who can fall. If you experience #dizziness #vertigo know the risks. I not only have imbalance issues, I suffer from vertigo episodes, and was diagnosed with Tullio's Phenomenon.

You'e not alone! #AnyoneCanFall be prepared.

Fall Prevention Awareness Day is Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.
Hashtag: #FPAD2019

As many as 35% of adults age 40 years or older, in the United States, have experienced some form of #vestibular dysfunction. That's alot!

You don't have to just live with it. There are things you can do not only treatment wise, but by adapting your surroundings to have you home safe for you.

Many falls take place at home. In areas like stairways, halls, pathways make sure there is a secured rail. Add lighting and keep them uncluttered. Throw rugs can be dangerous.

The bathroom can be one of the most dangerous areas in the home. Wear slip resistant socks and shoes. Use rails where needed like in the shower or by the toilet.

You might not think your bedroom would be an area of risk but one can easily trip on a cord if you have your phone charging or a laptop plugged in. Be aware!
In today's day and age people often have a radio or sound machine, laptop, fans, and even television in their bedroom.

Remember These Tips:

Keep electrical wires by walls. Arrange your furniture in a way that you won't run into it. Watch out for furry friends who tend to be underfoot. And... keep your phone near by.

If you do fall and no one is there to help, you want to be able to call for help if needed.

Once you know what is causing you to fall, you can take steps to reduce further risks with treatment.
