Hyperacusis: The Hearing Test From Hell

March 24, 2014
My day started off way to early... 3:00 a.m. was to soon to wake.. I tried to sleep tossing this way and that... but the ringing in my ears was just to loud... then there was the early morning ride to my doctor appointment... which seemed to take forever... it was as if the vehicle was standing still on a never ending moving ride to nowhere...

When I got there the air system in the building was way to loud... plus the child banging the toy... mind you the child was old enough to know better... however the parents had know need to make her mind... then I had the hearing test from hell...

All the beeping was overwhelming and painful... I noticed my eyes gave away my discomfort and my hand hanging in the air from the pain... made it unbearable to move at times... but the highlight was the megaphone talking in my ears... every syllable uttered by the one administering the test was painful to hear... I don't think anyone truly knows what a person with hyperacusis goes through.
While waiting to be called in for the doctor I had to take my nausea pill, the hearing test set off my vertigo.

Once called back for the doctor, whom then told me to walk a straight line and I thought...when did I get pulled over and where's the car... this is silly... and awkward and I need a V8... my balance was my downfall... by the time it was done... I was exhausted... I don't think I could have fit another sound in my head...

The ride home was a quiet one... walking up the stairs you would have thought I just finished a 12 hour day... my head was killing me... my ears in pain and the thought of the day still having 8 hours in it was unthinkable...

I remember laying down... and waking up... nothing in between... my phone woke me on vibrate... which then sent me running into the bathroom... pain induced vomiting... not fun... fyi

And now I take the rest of the night to let my ears rest and head settle... my stomach was still doing flip flops... the slightest movement can cause the room to spin... tired... very tired today... sounds can be so exhausting... my mind works twice at hard because I can't tell what direction they are coming from... my ears and eyes work overtime...
