When tinnitus and hyperacusis flares up
February 6, 2014
Today I went out to the store to get food for my lunch. It seemed the perfect time being I had already been busy working away at my articles. With the sun shining bright, I wanted to take advantage of the weather and get something for my lunch.
As always, I had on my earplugs and earmuffs as stores tend to be a noising place with all the people and register scanners going off. As always, I knew exactly what I wanted to get, for me the quicker I can get in and out of the stores the better. However, I was unprepared for what would happen next.
As I made my way through the store, which I have visited many a times I thought I knew every part of the store that bothered me. That was not the case because today I found myself in such pain that I had to stay well away from 75% of the store. I had already known meat aisles were a no no in Wal-mart because that section gives off a high pitch sound. I had been in Price Chopper so many times it was not the case before.
I found myself putting my hands up to my ears, which were already covered and protected with the earplugs and earmuffs and I was still in great pain. I quickly found myself feeling disorients from the pain and way backing away. As I tried to get around it to just finish my shopping and go I had not realized where I was and soon I found myself between the freezer section and meat section where both ears were bombarded with such pain and pressure I felt myself literally going deaf.
Pitcher yourself standing between to great speakers one on your right and one on your left the music sound loud you can't hear yourself talk and the vibration just echoes in your head. Now imagine the sound being unbearably loud and you cannot think straight...
All I knew was I was in trouble and needed to get out of there. My mind could not think straight I did not know which way to go. The pressure in my head was so bad and the pain that I could not move. It was like trying to make something broken work and my mind would not work. Luckily, my body acted for me when my mind could not and I moved this way and that feeling like a mice in a maze trying to get away from the pressure I was feeling in my ears and the pain.
Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw my eldest daughter who went to get something and I quickly moved forward her explaining I had to get out of there. She quickly got the rest of the stuff we needed as I made my way to the front of the store.
By the time, we reached the front-end checkouts I had become so nauseated that I could not continue to check out. I leaned against the shopping cart and put my hand over my mouth fight back the severe onset of nausea. I thought for sure I was going to vomit. At that point, I realized I had done something very foolish I did not have my medicine on me.
I made it home and ran right into the bathroom. 'God help me' it's getting worse and my doctor's appointment is weeks away.
