Accommodations denied when asked for by hyperacusis sufferer
January 17 2014
The nausea and
vomiting has let up thank goodness but the ear pain is not. It feels like this
has caused some kind of inflammation which may be bringing on an ear infection
in both ears. ears still feel blocked, I hear crackling from time to time and
pain from the ears shoot down the side of my throat. The migraine seems to be
letting up some coming and going however yesterday was the worse because not
even the extra strength advil was helping with that or ear pain.
I was up well
into the night unable to sleep from the tinnitus and hyperacusis being so
flared up. By one clock and I still couldn't sleep I thought I'd work to try
and help settle it down but my mind could not even focus on work.
I'm 4 days
into this now and though the nausea and vomiting are settling down, the blocked
feeling in my ears, pain, migraine and fogginess in my head have not
cleared.
Going for that
medical review really did a number on my ears.
I'm just concerned another infection will set in because of this and may lose my hearing for good. Anyway it's Friday!!! Try to have a good day everyone. Onward and upward... if not better by tomorrow will go back to the doctors.
I'm documenting how many
days until it settles back down after being subjected to harmful sound from a
situation that could have been avoided if they would have just given me some
simple accommodations.

Nausea and a bit lightheaded today but
feeling a bit better, thank you. I have a few articles to work on and drinking
lots of fluid; that always helps. Slight ear pain but at least it's not pain in
my throat today.
(Later that day) All
sounds seem to be echoing in my head... lets hope just one more day of dealing
with the repercussions from the medical review; interview from hell that I can
honestly say caused me further harm. ugh

Back from my doctor
appointment... to assess tinnitus and hyperacusis causing speech abnormality.
Will go to speech therapy and see what they recommend. Told doctor about what
happened at the medical review, how it reduced me to tears. I let my doctor know
I asked for accommodations because of my condition and was told there was no
way they could accommodate me other than as soon as I got there to let them
know and they would get me. Had to wait a half hour with security wands
beeping, crowd of people talking, doors opening and shutting people calling out
names. And now I have to deal with nausea, vomiting, ear pain and migraine
until my ears settle back down from it all.
