The Effects of Traumatic Situations
January 15 2014
It was well into the night before my
migraine caused from yesterday's outing had subsided. Before I even left from
my home, I had already taken my medicine, which helps me with the nausea and
vertigo associated with the form of hyperacusis I have.
I knew then that the days to follow would
be hard, as I ran from my bed early this morning from the severe nausea. In my
case sometimes, the pain can be so severe and sudden that nausea and vomiting
follow for two to three days after while my ears settle back in. All through
the night, my ears felt blocked and the tinnitus flared. The fogginess in my head
would come and go I managed to get four hours sleep if lucky.
Aside from the nausea and vomiting this
morning the tinnitus is still there, as it is always there day and night, night
and day never a moment of silence. The ringing can vary from sounding like a
whistle blown in my ear, a permanent hearing test being taken to the sound of
crickets. It really depends by the trauma experienced and damaged caused.
Make no mistake every time a person with
tinnitus and hyperacusis goes out into the world we experience pain which
causes further damage. We are put into situations like mine forced to go into a
building crowded, loud, with security check points, beeping machines and more.
We cannot say no to a medical review. They do not care what damage a situation
such as that costs us. It makes me want to pull out a whistle and blow it in
someone ear and not stop until they too are reduced to tears only then would
they understand our pain.
I see my doctor today because of the
speech issue I have been experiencing but make no mistake yesterday event will
be noted. Is it really so important to determine if I am a person with a
physical disability when we should be focusing on helping me gain my life back
from this invisibility disability.
My 'Ear Nose Throat Specialist' has
already documented in my medical that they believe I need Tinnitus Retraining
Therapy and Directional Retraining Therapy. Yet when I tell them there is no
one in the area what, I fall to the side and nothing gets done, I am to become
a silent sufferer?
I will not sufferer in silence, the world
needs to be made aware of these conditions and take aim to help those who
sufferer. We should not be forced to go into places that cause us bodily harm
and further trauma. As like with any disability steps should be put into place
so they we are accommodated for our needs to live a happy healthy life.
So alas people, there you have it. Speak
out tell your communities that more things need to be done for people who
suffer from tinnitus and hyperacusis. The effects of traumatic situations cause
us harm.
